King and Lewis start with fireworks but Rashid's spell ensures a win for the Patriots

Jamaica Tallawahs vs St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots

A match to look out for as the second-placed Jamaica Tallawahs took on the current CPL Champions, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. This would be an interesting match as both parties would want to extend their win count and the Patriots eyeing revenge on the loss of their season opener against the Tallawahs.

Patriots Captain Dwayne Bravo had won the toss and chose to bowl first. Brandon King and Kennar Lewis kick-started the innings by scoring 46 runs within the first of 5 overs. Rashid Khan was brought in the last over of the powerplay and struck in his first over taking the wicket of Lewis. Akila Dananjaya then picked up King’s wicket which meant both the openers were back in the pavillion. Some challenging overs by Rashid denied the Tallawahs to increase their score drastically. The momentum and energy showcased during the powerplay were clearly absent as the Tallawahs batsmen struggled to score runs against St Kitts & Nevis bowlers. With more wickets falling, the Tallawahs only managed to score a total of 139/5 at the end of their innings. Right after the first innings, the stadium was greeted with some showers which eventually delayed the restart of the match. Hence, due to the DLS method, a new target of 113 runs from 15 overs was set for the Patriots when the game restarted.

Evin Lewis and Andre Fletcher stepped onto the pitch and ended up scoring 49 runs at the end of the powerplay which now was 5 overs. During the 6th over, Lewis was dismissed with a brilliant acrobatic catch by Chris Green along the boundary line. Then came Darren Bravo who played a wonderful innings, scoring 39 of 21 balls to reduce the target score. Sherfane Rutherford only had to come in to support Fletcher as he finished things off for the Patriots. Fletcher played an anchors innings scoring 45 off 38 balls playing a crucial role in Patriot’s victory. Rashid Khan for Patriots was declared the Man of the Match thanks to a good spell with the ball conceding just 8 runs in his 4 overs and taking a wicket.

Despite losing the match, Jamaica Tallawahs still sit in 2nd place on the table. Now, the Tallawahs would go on to prepare for their next game against the unbeaten Barbados Royals in their next fixture.
